‘RAB sponsored mountaineer and fell runner Al Powell wins Britains most prestigious mountain marathon’

Al Powell, together with his brother Ivor, have won the elite category in the 2006 OMM (previously known as the KIMM) with a convincing 28 minute winning margin over the tough 2 day course.

Set in the Galloway hills this years event covered testing tussocky terrain with difficult misty conditions on day 1 and beautiful clear conditions on day 2.

After coming close to victory in previous years and winning other mountain marathon events this years victory in the OMM was the one that the brothers had been wanting for some years now. Al, better known to many as a top flight expedition mountaineer and full time mountain guide, had trained in Europe this summer on a number of European hill running events, and also claimed that his long legs were well suited to the difficult underfoot conditions at this years OMM.

Al, famous for making his own super lightweight gear, used a Rab down topbag, and Rab lightweight overtrousers throughout the 2006 OMM.
