At RAB we use a selection of materials in the production of our garments and sleeping bags. Our range of mountain clothing now includes all layers from the skin out, as well as down sleeping bags used on the most extreme expeditions. New fabric developments have enabled us to produce our lightest ever down sleeping bags and clothing, as well as some of the world’s most breathable waterproof shells, below are brief descriptions of the main materials we use.
 
 

eVent® is the most breathable direct venting waterproof fabric on the market today, and has allowed RAB to produce a range of fully protective mountaineering shell clothing that maintain comfort levels previously only dreamed of. The 'direct venting' and 'dry system' used in eVent allows full breathability even in wet conditions. The RAB eVent mountain clothing has been extensively tested by respected mountaineers on ground breaking first ascents in Scotland, Alaska, Peru and the Himalaya and has received numerous 'best in test' awards in the UK outdoor press.

RAB has selected the finest quality down from Eastern Europe that is sorted, washed and sterilised in Germany, to exceed current European Community standards. The down we use is a natural by-product of ducks and geese that are traditionally raised in a free-range environment, primarily for food production. The quality of the end product is as much dependent on correct handling and processing as it is on initial sourcing. RAB has identified a company in Europe that we believe produces down to the highest quality, and we work closely with them to maintain a consistently high-quality product.
