Gary Rolfe - arctic expeditions.

Over the last three years RAB has provided clothing sponsorship to Gary Rolfe for his exploratory expeditions in the far north.

Gary is beginning to establish a reputation as one of the few men in history to consistently and successfully make solo expeditions on the Arctic Ocean with huskies. His use of cold weather clothing and his feedback from these expeditions has helped RAB to design and develop specialist expedition clothing for the most extreme conditions.

Gary has made three consecutive long-haul expeditions on the Arctic Ocean and endured winters in the Yukon and Canada's Northwest Territories; areas infamous for their violent storms and debilitating cold. In a recent statement after his last trip Gary said;

"I've a no compromise attitude. Dogs, nutrition, gear, training and clothing are all scrutinised for improvement. Working with a first choice specialist such as RAB enables me to push and perform alone under brutal conditions. The crucial feedback and development ideas I bring back are sparked off from critical experiences in wilderness regions. From this, RAB continue to develop vital clothing knowledge and when I return north, the reassuring attention to detail in my own clothing system warrants peace of mind that should extend to enhance your own adventure experiences".

RAB continue to support Gary and throughout his next expedition we'll be posting updates as the adventure unfolds. As for his use of RAB gear, his firm favourite is the Vapour-rise top, worn next to the skin to provide a wicking, thermal, windproof layer ideal for his high exercise ski days in low temperatures. In fact Gary rates the vapour-rise system so highly he wears it for all his training and recommends layering multiple vapour-rise in cold conditions. Gary also uses the Neutrino vest and a RAB down jacket but modified with a wolverine fur trim to the hood!

To see more about Gary visit:

"Vapour-Rise trail pants and my hooded smock have coped with the colossal energy output of me carrying my 120lb pack throughout this journey.”

Vapour-Rise trail pants and hooded tops are always part of my layering system. I’ve worn them throughout the entire journey. They keep the wind out, they keep me warm and they’re fast to dry when I get wet. A valuable all rounder because I train in them when not on journeys, so an important addition to my kit.”
