RAB
down products can be home cleaned, however this is a difficult and
time consuming job. Please give it careful consideration before
starting.
- Carefully
hand-wash the item in warm water (40°C) with a soap solution,
NOT DETERGENT.
- Rinse thoroughly,
making sure there is no soap residue present within the product.
- Squeeze out
all excess water gently with your hands and transfer item with
care to a washing machine. A delicate ‘spin’ programme
is recommended.
- If you are
cleaning a box walled garment or sleeping bag, ensure that the
weight of the item is supported by ‘cradling’ in a
bath towel or similar. Failure to do so may result in damage to
the down compartments.
- Immediate
tumble drying should commence in a commercial dryer on a ‘cool’
setting. Check the item periodically and repeatedly turn inside
out. The down contained within the baffling may require further
manipulation in order to restore the loft.
- Avoid the
temptation to remove the item from the dryer too soon. Although
the outer fabrics may feel dry and warm to the touch; down contained
within the baffling can still be clumped because of moisture.
The drying process can take several hours. When finished it is
advisable to store uncompressed in a dry, cool place. Airing should
continue for two days before use.

products |
 |
How
to maintain.
Your eVent®
fabricated garment contains a durable water repellant finish (DWR)
on the exterior of the fabric that serves as a first barrier to
penetration of the fabric by external water. This DWR finish degrades
over time and will occasionally need to be replenished. You will
be able to tell when this water repellency has degraded because
water will cease to bead up on the fabric. Even though the waterproof
eVent®
membrane is still keeping the water from passing through the fabric,
performance will be increased if you maintain the DWR finish with
regular treatments. We suggest treating the DWR finish at the same
time as your regular garment washings. Once the garment has been
washed, we recommend using Nikwax®
TX-Direct to completely restore surface water-repellency. It is
available in both spray-on and wash-in versions.
|
How
to wash.
- Regular washing
of your eVent®
fabricated garment will enhance product performance. Your garment
may be machine washed in warm water (40°C) with liquid detergent.
You may also use Nikwax®
Tech Wash. We also recommend a second rinse to remove all traces
of detergent from the fabric.
- You may tumble
dry your garment in a dryer or drip-dry. The warmth from the dryer
will rejuvenate the DWR finish but do not use a temperature higher
than the "warm" setting on your dryer since too much
heat could potentially melt the fibers of the garment.
|
 |
- Remember
also to refer to the manufacturer's guidelines. Do not use fabric
softeners or bleach.
- Never dry-clean
your garment.
- At some temperatures, the heat from an iron can have a rejuvenating effect on the DWR finish but there is a greater potential for fabric damage if the iron is too hot. We recommend
that if you do iron your garment you use a temperature no higher than "warm". (two dot)

| Synthetic
fill clothing (Primaloft®)
The RAB synthetic
fill jackets e.g. the Belay Jacket and Photon Smock have a Primaloft®
filling providing lightweight insulation.
Washing:
- Primaloft®
products are best washed at 30°C using a pure soap, avoiding
the use of detergents which can damage the silicon coating used
on Primaloft®
to avoid water absorption.
- The garments
can then be tumble dried on a cool setting. In the case of the
Belay Jacket the garment has a water resistant outer shell with
a DWR coating to bead water on the outer face of the fabric. Regular
washing will maintain optimum performance from your Belay jacket.

Note:
- Pure silk
is spun by the silk worm, which feeds on a diet of mulberry leaves.
Being a natural fibre there may be small flaws in the material,
which is a natural characteristic of pure silk.
- Take care
not to catch the liner in the zip of your sleeping bag and keep
your toe nails short! You will find after some use that small
holes may appear next to the stitching. These should NOT develop
into a tear.
